Listing Overview

Did you know the original village of Boonton now lies under the Jersey City Reservoir? Modern-day Boonton grew from the 1829 construction of the Morris Canal and the development of the New Jersey Iron Company. Founded in 1959, the Boonton Historical Society and Museum examines the area’s intriguing history all the way back to the mid-1700s through an extensive collection housed in the landmark Dr. John Taylor Building. The society also does themed walking tours to bring Boonton’s unique history to life.

The Dr. John Taylor Building at 210 Main Street was built in 1897-1898 as the residence and office of Dr. John L. Taylor and his wife, Adelaide. The land was a Christmas gift from Adelaide's father, the Honorable John L. Kanouse. The house combines architectural elements of Colonial Revival and Victorian Gothic styles.
