What’s That Gemstone?
Join John Sanfacon, acting Geology Curator, for a fascinating adventure in gemstone identification, using the Museum’s hi-tech instruments. Learn how the experts can distinguish between genuine diamonds and their many simulants, and how they can identify which simulants are involved: natural stones (topaz, sapphire, zircon, quartz, etc.) and synthetics (such as moissanite and cubic zirconia). You are invited to bring in your “mystery” stones to be identified!
