Ellis Island and Contagious-Infectious Diseases

December 16, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

$10

What happened to an immigrant arriving to America in the 1900s if they were ill? Ellis Island, one of the
largest immigration stations, welcome over 16 million immigrants through its doors from 1892 to 1954.
In a place full of hope for a better life, the hospital buildings were islands of both sorrow and
redemption. Join METC and Save Ellis Island’s Nikki Todero on Wednesday, December 16 at 7pm, to
explore how the Ellis Island United States Public Health Service Hospital and officials cared for
immigrants with Contagious-Infectious Diseases and helped to prevent the outbreak of various illnesses.
Nikki Todero is a history educator and the Director of Museum Educator for Save Ellis Island Inc. Pre-
registration is required for access to the Zoom Link. This event is free for METC Members and $10 for
nonmembers.
