BONJ Chamber Music – A Summer Festival Event
The concert opens with Antonio Vivaldi’s exciting Sonata RV 86 – performed by the BONJ Chamber Ensemble featuring Laura Ferraro (flute), Andrew Pecota (bassoon), Saria Johnson (cello) and Cherwyn Ambuter (keyboard).
Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber is not as well known as the others on the program, but was one of the most important Baroque composers for the development of violin music. His expressive Harmonia Artificiosa Ariosa will be interpreted by violinists Agnes Kwasniewska and Olga Terlitsky with keyboardist Cherwyn Ambuter realizing the continuo part.
Beethoven’s String Quartets are the basis for all string players chamber music repertoire. The Opus 18 set was Beethoven’s first published work for this ensemble. Playing movements 1 and 3 of the first of the set will be The Four Continets String Quartet featurin Allen Weakland and Hany Rizkalla on violins, Hui Wang on viola, and Peter Howard on cello.
The Four Continents Quartet will be joined by bassist Roosevelt Porter to conclude the concert with Dvořák’s String Quintet #2, Opus 77.
