Behind-the-Scenes Tour of the Guinness Collection
The Morris Museum is the repository of the world-class Murtogh D. Guinness Collection of mechanical musical instruments and automata. After Guinness’ death in 2002, the collection was donated along with a conservation fund to the Morris Museum where it could forever be enjoyed by the public.
Meet the conservator and the curator who will guide you on a tour of the exhibit, demonstrate some of the musical machines and mechanical toys, and then move behind the scenes to the storage area where much of the collection is stored.
Considered the world’s premier collection of its kind, the Musical Box Society International, as well as visitors from around the world, have visited the Morris Museum to see this extraordinary collection of “machines that make music” alongside automata, defined as mechanical figures which move like a man or animal, most often to a musical accompaniment.
Following the tour, participants are invited to explore the rest of the museum until closing time at 5 pm for an additional fee of $5. Cost for the tour only is $15 pp for this unique opportunity.
