The Washington Association of New Jersey is one of the oldest historic preservation organizations in the country. Since 1874, the WANJ’s mission has been to preserve and maintain the Jacob Ford Mansion, also known as Washington’s Headquarters. General George Washington and the Continental Army struggled to survive the bitter winter of 1779-80 during the Revolutionary War. This led them to camp out across Morristown. The rest is history.
The Ford family donated some of the furniture used by Washington at the mansion. Over the years, the Association has acquired an extraordinary collection of books, documents, paintings, prints, maps and other artifacts.
