Dover Area Historical Society & Museum

Dover Area Historical Society & Museum

In its heyday, Dover’s economy soared thanks to manufacturing of iron, fabrics, hosiery, mill works, machine shops and more. Visitors can still see Dover’s wealth of diverse architecture and grandiose homes, but there are some surprising hidden parts to the town’s past – like its rich vaudeville history. The Dover Area Historical Society has worked tirelessly to protect, preserve and recognize the town’s historical structures while celebrating its lesser-known history.

The Museum’s collection includes Dover High School yearbooks from 1917 and 1925 to the present, an exhibit called “Disasters of Dover” and “History of Dover’s Theaters.”  The Dover Museum participates each fall in the free “Pathways of History” event.

Visitors can make an appointment to tour the museum or drop in during one of the public Open Houses. The Society runs a variety of educational programs and entertaining presentations throughout the year.
